How my Hair Grew 12 Inches Overnight

Its no secret that my hair was short one day and extremely long the next. In July, I decided to give permanent extensions a try. While I had the clip-ins for some time, I would end up only wearing them once in a while due to the time it took to put them in and style them every time. My hair grew 12 inches in one day when I had hand-tied extensions put in.

Hand-tied extensions are a newer method of hair extensions but growing in popularity. They’re the least damaging and pain-free to have installed. Simply, 2-4 wefts ( I have 3) are sewn into a weft that is created by weaving thread around your natural hair and secured with beads. When your hair grows, after about 10 weeks, the same hairpieces simply get moved up. The hair itself can last about 6-9 months according to the JZ Styles website.

Are Extensions Made Equal?

Now, back in July, I had a different brand of hair put in than what I have in now. Bohyme extensions are what I originally had purchased for me from my salon and had installed for about four months. However, this particular brand in the color that I wear, had a defect in their product and caused extreme tangling and matting of the hair, something really hard to deal with. Luckily, I chose a great salon and stylist who replaced them with a higher quality brand, JZ Styles.

After having my extensions replaced, I couldn’t be happier with the results. I do not feel them in my head at all, I can do everything to them that I can do to my natural hair plus more. Its silky, smooth and gorgeously long. After having short hair for about five years, I was so impatient and tired of not being able to style it as I wanted to and these extensions were the perfect solution for me. I can wake up with pretty, long hair and don’t have to worry about damage to my natural hair when I eventually do take them out.

I wash them about 1-2 times a week, sometimes I wash only my natural hair and scalp more often if needed. My favorite can be found here. I deep condition them every time I wash my hair, which has actually helped to improve my natural hair as well, as its getting more nutrients due to me taking extra care of the extensions. My favorite deep conditioner can be found here, and trust me when I say I’ve tried them all. Plus, this one is budget friendly. It’s important to use a good shampoo as well and nothing too cheap, it makes a huge difference in maintaining the extensions life. I love this shampoo and this conditioner set, plus the matching oil. My hairdressers use the same brand at my salon, its more of a splurge but very much worth it.

Style as Normal

I can style them the same as my natural hair and the curls last a lot longer, usually a few days. I try to avoid putting heat on them daily and only blow dry once a week or when they are almost totally dry. Honestly, I don’t have a single complaint and recommend hand tied extensions for anyone seriously wanting or considering hair extensions. They are the least maintenance, damage and the easiest to care for.
