5 Beauty Must Haves for Fall
The changing of the seasons has started. With the cooler temperatures starting to hit, and the air beginning to dry out, its essential to swap out your daily beauty routine. Just as you swap over your closet from summer dresses to fall sweaters, you should also make the change with your beauty regiment. The cool air brings on drier skin, increase of dead skin cells, static prone – dry hair, and so much dullness. Gone as the days of naturally dewy skin, and now begins the heavy duty moisturizing process, brightening masks and eye creams. These are my 5 beauty must haves for fall.
Boost Your Moisture – Masks
In these cooler months, I love to pop on a weekly moisture mask. Usually about once a week or every two weeks, I love to reach for the Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask. While I am not a huge repeat Glossier customer, I do really love this product. Some of their product for value ratio is not very worth-it to me. Also, their entire campaigns focus on clear skin super models using their minimal makeup, which is great, but maybe try using a regular consumer for once considering your campaigns use language that claim they are for the all-natural girl next door type.
Ok, rant over, but, I do love this mask. I sampled it at their NYC store once and instantly liked and purchased it. Its not too heavy to make you break out, but its great for a morning glow boost. I also love the Lanaige Water Sleeping Mask, which you can use for 20 minutes during the day and rinse off, or actually sleep in it. If you buy the smaller size, which is plenty, (a little goes a long way) its cheaper than the Glossier, and has better reviews.
Not Your Grandma’s Face Cream
When it comes to dealing with dry skin, I have my fair share of experience. Even in the summers, I have to use daily moisturizer and at times a moisture mask as well. My skin is prone to easily dry and flaky skin, with dullness and sensitivity. My favorite go-to winter moisturizer, is the Algenist SPLASH moisturizing gel. However, I have only been able to find it readily in stock at Sephora’s, which can be a bit annoying.
A more accessible moisturizer I love for fall and winter months is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream. Its lightweight but has that little extra kick of thicker moisturizer, yet it won’t clog pores and cause breakouts. Its super budget-friendly and available almost everywhere. A cult-favorite face cream, Kiehl’s Ultra Face Cream, is a go-to for many beauty bloggers, and works wonders as well. Its a bit more money, and not as easily accessible, but worth the splurge if you are prone to extra dry – dry skin.
Yes, You Need Eye Cream
Let’s talk eyes. The skin around your eye is forty percent thinner than the rest of your face. When it gets dry, it is extra prone to wrinkles, dark circles and bags. Using a moisturizing eye cream is essential for fall and winter months. My favorites are listed below, and are all products that I have used and highly recommend.
No One Likes Dry Lips
Have you ever used a lip scrub? They are life-changing. I am obsessed with trying different versions and have listed some of my favorites. Dry lips are one of the first noticeable signs of de-hydration and dry skin. One of my first ever lip scrubs was the LUSH all-natural bubblegum scrub. Its about $10, will last you forever, and tastes amazing, lol. Plus, its all natural which is important considering you are going to be getting it in your mouth. While keeping up with skincare is important in these dry months, its also important to keep drinking a lot of water and stay hydrated.
Body Butter, Please
Keeping your entire body moisturized, inside and out, is essential. Using the right body lotions and creams is super important. Adjusting to a thicker all-over body lotion, like the ones I have linked below, or a body cream, will do wonders in the cold weather. Say good-bye to scaly, ashy legs and hello smooth, soft skin. Every time I put on body lotion, I have to lock myself in my bathroom or closet. Once my puppy hears it happening from across the apartment (thanks, big ears), he makes a run for it to try and lick it all off. I have to put it on behind closed doors, and immediately get dressed or it’ll be gone in minutes. Does anyone else’s dog do this, or is mine just a weirdo?
Don’t Pick Your Split Ends
While you are switching your skincare over and getting our your scarves, make sure to take care of your hair, too. Adding a few drops of hair oil to your ends at night before bed will help prevent breakage and split ends caused by the cool weather. Choosing the right oil for your hair type can be confusing, but the safest bet is to opt for a lightweight oil, like the Olaplex Number 7, to prevent weighing your hair down.
You can switch to heavier version, like the Oribe Gold Lust Oil if you notice needing extra moisture. And please, don’t pick your split ends. This is one of the grossest things someone can do when around other people, in my mind. Its weird, bad for your hair and gross. Keep your stray hairs away with some hair oil, girl.
All in all, just be sure to extra-moisturize, stay hydrated and take care of yourself. Although these are my personal 5 beauty must haves for fall, yours might be different. The cooler months can take a toll of your body, and its important to stay healthy and active to combat any changes. Want to see how I changed my skin? Check out this post!
