Are you traveling for the holidays? Maybe you’re going home, taking a vacation, or going to visit family. Regardless, any form of travel during the holidays can be stressful and rushed. As someone who has always traveled during this time, I’m sharing all of my Holiday Travel Tips.

Plan Ahead

Holiday Travel Tips

If you are a last-minute adventurer, it may be a little trickier to find a good deal. But, its not impossible. Apps like Skiplagged, Kyak and more offer last-minute fairs to fill up empty seats. Skiplagged, while still newer to most people, is a super cool platform. It finds the best deals on flights, especially ones closer to last minute. A lot of my friends now use it when booking flights and they are big fans of the savings. I have used it once and it work out really well for me as well. You can learn more about it, and earn $10 in rewards here.

While these websites and apps are a great resource for last minute traveling, nothing is better than planning ahead. Airlines run constant sales around and before the holidays, and its the best time to take advantage of them. If you are not any form of a rewards member with any airline, its time to sign up. You can get early or exclusive access to flight and travel sales, making the sale-finding process so much easier.

Spirit, while sometimes annoying, is known for running constant sales and discounts during this time. I have gotten four sale emails from them within the last week alone! Frontier as well is an airline that frequently runs deals.
If you haven’t read My Best 6 Travel Tips, you can do so here. I go further in depth about flying tips than I do in this post, and I want to emphasize the TSA Pre-Check or Clear options to get through airport security faster. It saves time, stress and you don’t have to unpack and re-pack all of your belongings!

Stay Organized

Holiday Travel Ideas

With the holidays being such a busy time, its easy to be rushed into a mess of travel plans. Not to mention, packing. The worst thing you can do when it comes to packing is not plan out your outfits. One of my holiday travel tips is to take a few minutes while packing to think about what you want to be wearing and check the weather in advance, you’ll thank yourself later.

When I travel, I try to plan outfits that have pieces that I can re-wear. Pieces like jeans, shorts, sandals, basic tops and sweaters are all convertible. You can wear them more than once and still make a totally different outfit. A good idea to follow when planning outfits is to limit the bottoms you bring. One pair of jeans, one pair of shorts and one skirt or dress. All of these things can be worn more than once, and almost every hotel or resort you may be staying at will have laundry available. Bring one jacket or sweater as well, if you are headed to a warmer climate for cooled-off nights.

A good rule of thumb, while I still think it can be downsized, is the 5-4-3-2-1 rule. 5 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 dresses /skirts, 2 swimsuits (or jackets if its a cooler climate), 1 accessory. An accessory could be a hat, pair of sunglasses (I love these right now) or bag. I suggest for ladies taking one pair of heels, if you plan on going out in the evenings, one sandal and a closed toe option.

These packing cubes really help to keep things organized in your suitcase, and I swear when I use them I can fit more stuff in! They’re still on sale right now for the holidays and are a great gift, too.

Bring Your Own

Holiday Travel Tips

If you are driving or flying this holiday, holiday travel tips like packing your own healthy snacks, is a great idea. Rather than munching on packaged, horrible for you food like chips and candy, pack pre-cut apples or carrots and cheese. Your diet will thank you later, and so will your stomach and wallet. Airport prices are insane, and gas stations have horrible food options.

I like to bring an empty water bottle in my carry on or purse when I’m flying, and fill it up at a water bottle station after security. This is available in most airports. I always take this one. It keeps my water cold for the whole flight and screws shut, so I know it wont leak in my bag. Plus, tt saves me the $5 I would have to spend on a simple water bottle, and helps me to not use so much disposable plastic. This bag is similar to one I always use as a carry on, it fits so much!

Don’t forget, traveling can wear you down. Combat this by staying on top of things like moisturizing, keeping healthy and hydrated. The water bottle for the flight is a good start, but this sleep moisture mask with Watermelon is one of my favorite things to wear on my skin while flying. I also love to keep a mini Evian Face Spray handy, too. You can see all of my recommended travel essentials below. to stay glowing.
