Winter is the driest season when it comes to all thing beauty. From dry skin to dry and static prone hair, its time to moisturize like you never have before. Here are my 5 Winter hair care tips.
Wash Less
I know a hot shower every morning feels great, and so does clean hair, but a dry scalp does not. Avoid washing your hair as frequently as you might in the other seasons, and try out some new techniques. Tricks such as dry shampoo, wet hair moisture treatments and conditioner-washing can help keep your hair looking clean, when really you’re on day five of not washing.
This Kevin Murphy Moisture Treatment is used as a shampoo and conditioner replacement, and I use it every week between washes. I try to only wash my hair 1-2 times a week in the winter, and use this in the shower instead. My hair still looks clean, but feels super soft and healthy after each use.
Conditioner washing is a simple method, that is pretty self-explanatory. You use conditioner in place of shampoo in the shower, and only conditioner. The longer you can go without shampoo, the better. I used to do this and the longest i went without using true shampoo was around three weeks. It sounds weird, but after the first 1-2 times you do it, your hair adapts and starts to feel normal, but way better.
Use the Right Products
I know, I know. The cheap price tag and cute packaging made it seem like that drug store pickup was a good idea, but its not. Using quality products helps give you quality hair. If you are in need of true moisture and damage repair, you need to stick with prestiges salon brands. Oribe, Kevin Murphy and Olaplex are my current favorites. You can snag my most-used and recommended ones in the carousel below this paragraph. I promise, they are worth it.
Avoid Excess Heat
I always say this, and try to stick with it but it is so hard to avoid a lot of heat on my hair. With my current super-short hair style, the natural look is no good. I can get away with just blowdrying on cool when I’m trying to be good, but I love a good curl in my hair. Over the weekends I let my hair dry naturally when I have time to lay around the house, which is great for your hair, but understandably unreasonable for some people. A good heat protectant, like this one from CAVIAR, is a good tool to keep on hand.
Sleep on Silk
Silk pillowcases are amazing for breakage. They are so much less harsh on your hair than cotton pillowcases, and help to reduce breakage as you toss and turn in your sleep. Plus, you’ll feel fancy sleeping on such a luxury every night. This one is a splurge, must loved by so many and highly reviewed.
Dryer Sheets for Static
Dry hair causes static prone hair. Lightly grazing your hair with a fresh dryer sheet helps. Plus, you might even smell like clean laundry, which who doesn’t love. A little hair oil on your ends can help with this, too. I’ve linked the best hair oil I’ve ever used, and my favorite hair accessories too in the widget below!
