How to Wear an Oversized Sweater

Oversized Sweater

Well, the cooler days are finally here. I have been forced to put away all of my summer clothes and get out my winter coats. I am 100% freezing all of the time. These colder temperatures make me want to curl up in a large, fuzzy blanket all day. Sadly though, I have to work and be a real person, and can’t do this. My alternative is to wear an oversized sweater about every day. Rather than buying four different oversized sweaters, I am sharing in this post how to wear an oversized sweater, four different ways. One large, cozy sweater styled four different ways.

To make it even better, the sweater I am wearing is under $30 and available on Amazon Prime! I am wearing a size XL (based on review recommendation) and it is the perfect length on me. I am 5’7″ and don’t like things to be mini-length on my body, and this sweater works perfectly as a dress or tunic. It also has pockets!!

First Style – Glam Night Out

Because this sweater is an XL for length, it is pretty baggy and wide on my torso, very oversized. I like to add a belt around my waist to show some definition and make me look less like lump, lol. I chose a skinny Gucci belt to do this, adding a bit of glam to the oversized sweater. You could also use a waist bag, like I did in the photo above.

I paired tall black Tory Burch riding boots and have even tried this with sheer black tights and ankle booties as well, its just as cute! Styling your hair up with dangling earrings with make it even fancier, if you needed to dress up but still wanted to be comfortable. I linked some suggestions to dress this look up in the widget below this paragraph.

Four Ways to Wear an Oversized Sweater

Second Look – Harvest Chic

Whether you are being dragged (or volunteering) to go to a pumpkin patch or apple orchard in this freezing weather, you might still want to look cute. Gotta do it for the gram, right? I hate that I just said that, but it works for this, ugh. To keep this oversized sweater more casual, I suggest styling it as a tunic. With faux-leather leggings, and a more casual boot, this look is more comfortable yet ready for the all the harvest vibes. If you want to add some shape to the sweater, tying a flannel around your waist. It would add a cute pattern to the look as well! Chunky bracelets and heavy on the rings adds the perfect amount of glam to an otherwise casual outfit.

Third Outfit – Office Ready

Dinner parties and pumpkin patches aren’t the only place you can wear this gem of a sweater. You spend most of your time at work, so why not wear your new favorite wardrobe staple to the office. Add an oversized blazer with tall boots and fuzzy boot socks to stay warm but look professional. Adding a belt around the blazer and sweater are also an adorable option, and a trending style right now. I love the idea of throwing a headband on with this look. Keep your hair out of face for work, and look cute doing it. If you’re not a headband person, a silk scarf wrapped in your hair will also do the trick! I’ve linked my favorite ones below.

Fourth Look – Afternoon Lunch

Got plans for a day party or afternoon lunch? I picked this style to wear to a cousin’s bridal shower this weekend! The amount of times you can style this piece are endless, but these are my top four ways to wear an oversized sweater. Because I am a baby about cold weather, I wore the sweater as a dress, but threw on over the knee boots (with thick wool socks underneath) and a vintage suede jacket. Gotta layer up to stay warm here in Ohio, and I am terrified of being cold. I would rather sweat through my clothes, makeup, everything then be cold and shiver even once. Didn’t used to be this way, but I can no longer stand it.

I am adding a chunky, larger handbag to counter the oversized look, since I don’t plan to use a belt. In this outfit I will be cozy, comfortable (you won’t even be able to tell how many cookies I’ve eaten at the end of the shower) and look appropriate for a fall afternoon.
